The Many Adventures of Shark Girl

That's right, if I have a radial forearm freeflap (that's the technical term) I will have a layer of SHARK CARTILAGE put in! Since my tendons in my arm would be exposed, and they can't put the skin graft down directly on top of the tendons without the graft and the tendons possibly sticking together, they put a layer of shark cartilage and something else down first and put a hydro-pack on top of that for a week or two and then they come back and do a second surgery to put the skin graft down on top. How cool is that!??! But it is only if they take the graft from my arm and not my thigh, which they will decide in the operating room. Maybe they will feature me on Discovery Channel's Shark Week. I can see it now: "Part Woman, Part Shark, Medical Phenomenon." (except not really because this is a "routine" procedure - there's that routine word again).  So yes, this is one of the most exciting things to come out of this whole situation!

Today I went to the OBGYN and I'll spare you all the details except for the fact that I went to this guy because he is my mom's doctor. I had NO clue that he was the guy who delivered me 23 years ago. Talk about being a little awkward because this man has the most amazing memory EVER.

Tomorrow is marathon doctor appointment day. I have appointments at 9:00, 2:00, 2:45, and 3:30. That is going to wear me out, if for no other reason than that I am going to be repeating myself at every appointment. I should just schedule one big appointment and we can knock out all the appointments at one time. So, I will update again tomorrow!

I finally figured out how to comment on your blog. I read through to get caught up.

Can they put in gills too? That would be way cool!

We love you and are praying for you. Where is the surgery going to be? I would like to come and sit with your family.

Love, Pastor Gary

Shark Girl and Pot Boy,
I am working with Dawn for a few weeks while I was looking for a job in my field. She has been keeping me up to date through your blog and reading them to me. I am so sorry you have to face such an ordeal in your life. We will be thinking of you and lifting you up in prayer. We pray that it will be an uneventful surgery and quick recovery...everything better than you could ever imagine! The Lord is in control!

God Bless,

AWESOME! You'll be part human, part Shark Steph!

I was out of town this weekend so I definitely had some blogs to catch up on...I hope the cake is treating you well my friend.

Good luck with all the docs tomorrow - I think i like your idea of consolidation.

love,
k

Hey Steph how about the doctors come to you?? You know, you pick the place and they filter in and out while you sit with your feet up eating cake?

I get no points for my guess about what would be implanted in your arm. Did you ever hear the rumor that Geraldo Reveria had butt cells (ok, fat) injected in his forehead?

I'll award myself points for at least admitting what my guess was.

Good morning, Stephanie and Warner:

I have finished rough drafts of two different grant applications; now I am waiting for others to get back to me with feedback and revisions. So I got to catch up on reading your blogs and also many devotionals. I would like to share the link to videos below:

http://www.vimeo.com/videos/search:erin_thiele

The reason why I'm sharing these videos is because I have been reading her devotionals and transcriptions of her video messages--for she has shared the Message in a most effective way, even more than the more well-known authors (and I won't name names as to not disrespect them, but you know who they are and I know you've read their writings). The distinction in her writing and talking is that she puts the Scriptures up front first and she would clarify in FEW words with the eternal perspective and not with a humanistic, philosophical perspective. Unlike the well-known authors who take one Bible verse and wrote many pages in their own words; even though they are in love with the Lord, it's hard to absorb the love for God ourselves with their help. If that makes sense....

So...and in her writings, she recommended her readers to write Scriptures on index cards. I did that and would read through the cards every once in a while for several weeks-few months. Then now I feel really still and content, having been fed with the Word. Yes, we should always go back and read the Word because our lives are like the river, changing at every curve and over every rock, with situations. Each situation gives us a different reaction to the Word, to the same Scripture--giving us more awareness of the vastness of our Almighty One, Whose ways and thoughts are higher than ours.

This website has books that you can read via Adobe PDF or even print out without charge. The author's situation has been what has started the ministry, which God has so greatly blessed and I am thankful because I was not satisfied from reading other Christian books and devotionals, because they always left me half-fed. Erin Thiele's books are full of Scriptures with little human input, and that's what I've been looking for and boy, am I satisfied! I told Aunt SuSu about this, (and, Aunt SuSu, sorry I was being lazy in getting around giving this website address):

www.encouragingwomen.org is the new website derived from the old website: www.restoreministries.net

Stephanie, I hope that her books are the kind of reading you've been looking for, to get closer to the Lord. For her books definitely gave me a REFRESHED perspective on how to be close to the Lord. And to completely trust in Him and no one else.

Warner, I have more book recommendations and I don't know if you have already read these:
Randy Alcorn's "Deadline" and "Dominion" and "Heaven". Read these in that order...

now I better get back to polishing up those grant applications to be mailed out tomorrow.

love y'all!

Stephanie and Warner,

What a great blog you have! It is great to have the details of your adventure.

I might be going on an adventure myself, so I have to share with you some thoughts that God has given me.

Ps. 18:32,33 "It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and enables me to stand on the heights.

In the amplified Bible it says "He makes my feet like hinds' feet (able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble); He sets me securely upon my high places."

I am memorizing this to help me through a scary test on Monday, the 19th (the same day as your big surgery!) So I thought God might possibly speak to you through it, too.

Kerwin and I pray for you every night.

We would love to hear from you. My email is dees777@cox.net.

Have just finished reading your blog history. What a great way to communicate to all who love and care for you and are concerned about your progress.
It is good to see and read your humor.
Just wanted to say that I love you and am praying for you, expecting a miracle. God is a miracle God.
Love,
Ms. Vicki
